New Book From Sheri Dew

January 28, 2009

saying_it_like_it_isf_productSheri Dew’s new book “Saying It Like It Is”  just came in today.  Here is a description of the book:

Sheri Dew is known throughout the Church for her straightforward, tell- it- like- it- is style. Her personable and engaging approach has made her a favorite among Latter- day Saints across the world. In this collection, she shares some of the “simple, stunning, sobering truths” that have become her trademark:

“When we come to understand not only who we are but who we have always been— and therefore who we may become— the choice between following Christ or embracing the world is really no choice at all.”

“The only way to be happy is to live the gospel. It is not possible to sin enough to be happy.”

“We are here to influence the world rather than to be influenced by the world. If we could unleash the full influence of covenant- keeping women, the kingdom of God would change overnight.”

Paired with inspirational images in a beautifully designed gift book, her unflinchingly honest insights bring clarity to some of the most important issues we face today.”

The list price is $17.95.  Our sale price is $16.16.

Why?

There is a new web site out there that I want to share with everyone.  It is ldswhy.com.  This site will tie in with a new book by John Hilton that is coming in April.  The idea behind the book and the web site is to help youth understand why it is important to keep the standards of the church.  Topics such as the word of wisdom, dating, and the media are covered.  You can download a sample chapter of the book from the web site, or you can get one at the Deseret Book in Bellevue.  I think that both this book and web site will be a great resourse for youth, parents and leaders!

Book Review

January 21, 2009

bright_blue_product2Dawn, a Supervising Bookseller, at our store gave me this review for one of the new book we just got in, Bright Blue Miracle by Becca Wilhite.

“I could not put this book down!  Intelligently written about smart, moral teenagers in their senior year all college bound.  Leigh Mason’s widowed mother remarries and she suddenly has a step-sister her same age sharing a room with her.  On top of this Leigh’s longtime best friend, Jeremy, falls for her stepsister!  This inspiring, very fun, story shows how they all carefully and lovingly deal with each others feelings.  This book has it all- don’t miss it.”
